Privacy Policy

Effective September 27, 2026

The short version: RFRMD Word Labs LLC, the company behind SchriftOhr, does not collect your data. We receive only what you choose to send us, such as an email, a problem report or an idea. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking and no ads. The App Store label for SchriftOhr says Data Not Collected, and this page explains why that is true even though the app talks to a few services on your behalf.

SchriftOhr is made by RFRMD Word Labs LLC, a Texas company, which is the party responsible for this policy.

What stays on your device

Your books (EPUB, PDF, Markdown, text, comics and audiobooks) are read and spoken on your device. Your reading positions, bookmarks, highlights, notebook, the answers in your book reports, character casts, pronunciations you teach, prepared audio and preferences live there too. Audiobooks you export are written where you choose to save them, and a book report goes only where you share it. Nothing of this is sent to us.

If you sign in to iCloud

So that your devices agree, the app keeps some of that in your own iCloud account: copies of books you keep in the library, reading positions, bookmarks and highlights, notebook entries, book report answers, casts, pronunciations, prepared audio when you leave the mirror on, preferences, and the names of your devices, so a book can say “Chapter 11 · iPhone”. That storage belongs to you and is governed by Apple’s privacy policy; we cannot see it. Signed out, all of it stays on the device.

What touches the network, and what each service can see

Every one of these is an ordinary network request from your device. The service at the other end sees what any web server sees: an IP address and what was asked for. None of them learns who you are or what you are reading unless a section below says otherwise.

The neural voice and the shelf of editions

If you choose the neural voice, the app downloads its open-source voice model once, from a copy we publish or, when that cannot be reached, from the public site where the model’s authors publish it. Our copy also serves the voice packs and the free SchriftOhr Editions. After the download, speech works fully offline.

Find New Books

Searching the public-domain catalog sends your search words to gutendex.com, a public index of Project Gutenberg, and a book you choose is downloaded from Project Gutenberg’s servers. A catalog you add yourself is reached the same way, under its own policy. These outside catalogs open only after an age check, which runs on your device through Apple’s Declared Age Range: the app learns only which age band you are in (under 13, 13 to 17, or 18 and over), never your birth date, and Apple does not learn what you search for or read.

KOReader sync

Off unless you turn it on with your own KOReader account. Then your reading progress, a fingerprint of the book file (not its contents) and a device name go to sync.koreader.rocks, or a server you name, under that service’s own policy.

Support SchriftOhr

Tips are purchases handled entirely by Apple’s App Store. We receive no personal information about you from a tip.

Crash reports and Device Health

Your iPhone, iPad or Mac may share crash reports with Apple and with us according to the choice you made in its own settings; those reports are Apple’s and contain no book text. The app’s own Device Health reports and its Sync Log are kept on your device. One leaves only when you send it yourself: with Share, or with Send a Report, which opens a mail to us with the recent Sync Log attached and sends nothing until you press Send. That log holds the app’s own notes, such as book identifiers, reading places, chapter titles and device names, never the text of a book.

Children

SchriftOhr sends us no data about anyone, children included. Outside catalogs are kept for older readers; age suitability explains how.

Changes

If this policy changes, the change will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
