Quick answers

The neural voice stopped working with no signal. Open Settings → Voice and tap Download for offline use once, on Wi-Fi. After that it works with no connection at all.
Where are my books? The Library holds copies you chose to keep — in your iCloud when signed in (look in Files → iCloud Drive → SchriftOhr), otherwise on the device. The line at the bottom of the Library says which.
Reading sounds choppy on a book full of unusual words. Settings → Reading → Read ahead → Deep. The buffer absorbs slow sentences.
A name is read wrong. Open Pronunciation (the voice menu, or ⇧⌘U on the Mac), type the name as it's printed and how it should sound in plain letters — "Evan" as "Evin" — and tap Hear it before you keep it. It holds in every book and follows you to your other devices. Hyphens and apostrophes read as little pauses, so leave them out.
A word reads oddly (an abbreviation, a number, a symbol) — email the exact sentence; these are usually quick fixes.
Better Apple voices: download them in System Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Manage Voices, then pick them in SchriftOhr's Settings → Voice. Let a download finish before picking the voice — a half-downloaded voice can't speak yet, and the app will say so.
A voice won't speak? Open Voice Status (in the voice menu or Settings → Voice) and tap Test Speak — you'll hear right away whether the voice works. Restart the Reader on the same screen fixes a reader that got stuck when voices changed underneath it.
Give the characters voices: open a book, pick "Voices in this book…" from the voice menu, and assign voices to the leads. In dialogue books and plays, spoken-play mode skips the speaker names — the voices carry the parts.
Someone you know speaks isn't in the cast list. The list shows the leads. Open Everyone the book names inside that sheet for every name found, however few lines they have, and switch any of them into the cast. A character the book never names as a speaker can't be found automatically — that list is how you give them a voice anyway.
On the Mac, where is everything? In the menu bar. Book holds Contents ⌘L, Find in Book ⌘F, Notebook ⇧⌘N, Reading Style ⌘T and Mark this spot ⌘D; Playback holds play and pause ⌘P, the skips, Voices in This Book ⇧⌘V and Pronunciations ⇧⌘U. The same tools sit at the foot of the window, in the order you set in Settings.

When you write, it helps to include

Your device (Mac / iPhone / iPad), the app version + build from the welcome screen or About (e.g. “0.2.0 (23)”), and — if it's about a specific book — the file type (EPUB / PDF / Markdown).
